Before cutting a couple giant holes in my wall I did some research and read as much as i could. I found out that electricians call this a "Low Voltage Cable Entrance Plate" because its specifically used for "Cable Entry" into and out-of walls. They're called low voltage because audio and video wires are low voltage compared to outlets.
Some things you need before you start:
A. You need 2 of these plates and 2 mounting brackets. One set behind your TV, and one where you want the wires to come out. The plates won't actually mount to the wall unless you use the brackets. I used the same brand so i know they work together: Arlington Low Voltage Mounting Brackets.
B. The mounting brackets give instructions of how to draw the lines and cut holes. Make sure you don't run into a stud, its likely to happen if you're traveling far horizontally. If you don't have experience drilling a hole in studs, i suggest feeding the wire up into your attic then over the stud.
Reasons why i bought this instead of others:
-This item is paintable. i didn't need to paint it, but in the future, WHO KNOWS.
-Its reversible! i'm not an electrician, but i'm used to wiring my stereos over the years. Knowing i could flip this thing upside down and backwards until i was happy just makes sense. You can have the hood inside or outside the wall. VERY COOL.

I used this wall plate to feed HDMI cables from my home theater system up inside the wall to my wall mounted TV. Like other reviewers I liked the fact that it was reversible. It allowed me to turn the cowling part of the cover to the inside of the wall behind the TV as there was not much space behind it. These covers will also work with standard plastic workboxes. In my case the workboxes were already in the walls so I did not need the mounting brackets.
